On Thursday 20 September, Room 10 went on the WOW tour.  We were lucky enough to be able to see: -->
·               The new Silverstream Landfill to view the type and volume of waste we sent to landfill.
·               Earthlink Facility “WasteSMART” to see what can be salvaged from landfill and made useful. Of particular interest will be the recycling of labeled clothing to make kids clothes.
.         Allbright recycling centre.

HCC Keep New Zealand Beautiful 2012!
On the 21st of September, Maungaraki School Explored The community of Maungaraki to find rubbish that had been left in certain places. This is the third year running we have participated in the Keep Hutt Beautiful. The years 1,2 and 3s explored the school, the year 4-6 cleaned up around the shops, church and basketball area and the years 5, 6, 7 and 8 cleaned up Percy's Reserve for two hours. The reason we were cleaning up the community was we wanted to. For the Years 7&8 first we walked down to Percy's Reverse, then we were separated into groups and looked for rubbish, our group went by the motorway first. Thirdly we met back at the same place we started and played a game of stuck in the mud. Finally we walked slowly back up the hill. When we got back we were tired.

For next year the E-team proposed that maybe we go up to Belmont Regional park as we did find that Percy's Reserve was already clean. We found the most rubbish was in the gutter on the streets.

ENERGY DAY 16 MARCH 2012

On the 16 March part of the E-team went with Mrs Sutherland to Muritai school to check out how we could make our school more energy efficient.  Jhanvi, Hannah feature in the above photos of how to use solar power to light a light bulb and fan.  The team reported back to the whole school at assembly with a slide show - we were buzzing about all the possibilities for our wonderful school...such as harnessing our wind/sun to create electricity... watch this space!!

2010-2011 Education programmes: Take Action for Water, Enviro House persuading HCC to keep the house at the end of Dowse Drive, Recycling, WOW Tour, Planting and Harvesting our veggies.
