Paper-for-Trees Report

Paper for Trees report

For the paper for trees program we ordered our trees last term. Mrs Sutherland and Jiya ordered some NZ Flax and NZ Iris shrubs. Once they have been delivered to our school we will hand them to the gardening gang to plant in our gardens. We are hoping that they will be planted by the end of this year.

By Jiya, the Paper-for-Trees representative from the Enviro Team.

Enviro Project Ideas for 2018

Enviro Project Ideas for 2018

We are close to finishing our Bottle Green House, so we have been brainstorming new ideas for the Construction Gang, and what the final design of the Bottle Green House will look like. Here is the process we went through.

First, we created criteria for these ideas, as next year's overarching inquiry is Sustainability. We have tried to focus on having our materials be recycled. Also, we are trying to focus on something that can serve a purpose that isn't filled at our school already.

Next, we brainstormed some ideas. These are our top 5 ideas which we have decided on:

  • Bottom field building site - tires and pallets and wood, different classes would get the bottom field each week and they could go down at anytime and build with the building materials.
  • Tea cup
  • Pallet planter
  • Milk bottle watering can

Finally, we collected some Pictures we can use for inspiration

Empowered Students: Enviro Vision Statement

Empowered Students overview:

Enviro Vision Statement

The Enviro Team students came up with a new vision statement.

“We are here to connect with and influence our community to create a welcoming, positive, respectful environment where everyone wants to be. We strive to improve ecosystems so they are safe for living things.”

How did we make this?:

Last term Micheline Evans came to talk to us about the environment and our E-team and what we can do to get a silver. We talked about what we wanted to see in our school in a few years and here is a few words we came up with:

  • Green
  • Clean
  • Eco Friendly
  • Safe for living things
  • Plants
  • Nature
  • Zero Waste

That was a few things we thought of, Micheline then went off and then came back in term 3 wk 2 with a wordle. On the wordle was all of the words we brainstormed of about our school and what we want it to look like. Then we were given pieces of paper that had other schools vision statements, we were then told that we were making a new vision statement for our school. So Micheline gave us a piece of paper and a wordle, we went off in small groups and made some vision statements. We all came back together as a group and shared our vision statements, we then combined some together and we made this wonderful brand new vision statement.

The Enviro Team would like to thank Micheline for coming and helping us make a new vision statement. Thank for letting us having the voice and choice in making this vision statement!
